Despite the London rain, visitors were queuing outside the entrance to welcome in The France Show 2008 at Olympia at 10 am on Friday - and the flow of francophiles and French property hunters just kept coming throughout the day bringing an attendance figure of 9231 - the highest first day figure for the key French lifestyle event in the UK for the past five years.
The news was a major boost for new Show organisers Archant Life France - who only decided to take on the event just over four months ago. Archant Life are the publishers of the best-selling French sector titles France, Living France and French Property News and organsers of the highly successful and long-running French Property Exhibitions programme, which also forms part of The France Show 2008.
As Regional MD of Archant Life France Miller Hogg put it " This is not only fantastic news for us in terms of a start to this event, but to our exhibitors, many of whom have had a terrific first day in terms of business. Without their support, we had no show, so it looks like their confidence in us will be rewarded over the weekend if today is anything to go by."
Amongst those exhibitors was Nick Warren, MD of The Travel Market, owners of he very successful Ferry Travel Club which offers discounted crossings for those who travel frequently to France. Nick was delighted with their first day's business, commenting
"we’ve managed to sign up over 200 new members to The Ferry Travel Club today, our show target is 1000 and I’m really pleased that we’ve made such a brilliant start. Historically the Friday has always been quiet but this year we’re really pleased with the foot fall, the level of interest in the Club, and the amount of new members we’ve signed up." The Ferry Travel Club is offering all visitors to The France Show free Club membership. Membership entitles travellers to France discounts with all the major ferry operators’ including Eurotunnel and Eurostar, and great deals at over 300 independently contracted hotels throughout France and Belgium."
Visitors to The France Show were treated to live music, CanCan girls, free cookery demonstrations by leading chefs including Jean-Christophe Novelli, seminars on travel, property, winetasting and learning the language.
