Duo dine out underwater
Dressed up to the nines in their best ball gowns, two diners from Archant Life sat down to a three course banquet – underwater.
Property manager Stuart Webb and Nial Phillimore, senior ad manager on The Green and Westside, both received official certificates of insanity after they took part in a World Record attempt for the most people dining underwater.
They were among 500 guests and Stuart, sporting a sparkly gold number, was singled out for a soggy TV appearance on ITV’s London Tonight.
Diners swam down to the special three course meal, donated by NASA, at west London’s Park Club. The underwater theme continued with a smoked salmon starter and medley of crab and chilli with asparagus as a main course.
As well as getting very wet, Stuart and Nial raised more than £400 in sponsorship from colleagues and clients, which will be split between charities including the British Heart Foundation, Breast Cancer Care, and Save the Children.
Stuart, whose wife Julie also took part in the bizarre challenge, said: “In the process of raising sponsorship, somebody on an internal email asked which one of us would be wearing a ball gown. I responded by throwing down the gauntlet that I would wear one if we raised enough money. Subsequently the internal emails went berserk with donations for both of us if we wore frocks so there was no choice!
“On completion of the dive we received official certificates of insanity which I think says it all.”
